Why are more people than ever listening to podcasts?

Podcasts have become the new trend in modern day media. Whether people listen to them to learn something, for entertainment, or to stay in touch with the latest news, there’s no denying that podcasts have become very popular over the past few recent years.

This post will go through the main reasons why people have been tuning into podcasts more than ever before.

Convenience

One of the key reasons why people listen to podcasts is convenience. Think about it, instead of watching your favourite youtuber, you can now tune into their podcast on apps such as Spotify and play them in the background wherever you are.

Whether you’re on your way to work, cooking, or in the gym, you can tune into your favourite podcast and get your entertainment in. Anything from the latest trends to insights into your topics of interest you can find on a podcast, and very conveniently.

Personal connection

Much like with platforms like YouTube, or more specifically Patreon, people crave a personal connection with their favourite content creators. Unlike traditional videos however, podcasts are more centred around leading a conversation with traditional dialogue.

With this, listeners feel like they’re part of the conversation, and community in relation to the podcast topic.

On-demand listening

Before podcasts there were television and radio interviews, which you needed to be there for, or you’d miss it. Much like with on-demand TV, podcasts have made it possible for interview-style content to be listened to on-demand.

Meaning you can start the first half in the morning and carry on with the rest in the evening if you feel like it. This flexibility enables listeners to choose when and where they want to listen, allowing them to tailor when they watch podcasts to their schedules.

Insights from industry professionals

Not everyone knows where to start when searching for a mentor, or merely a real-life example of a business owner or role model, regardless of field.

That being said, podcasts make it so that finding these influences are very easy, and so people can get first hand experiences from them, to inspire and motivate them to better themselves.

As podcasts provide a platform for experts, influencers, and thought leaders to share their insights and knowledge directly with their audience, listeners can gain access to in-depth conversations and interviews with people they admire or want to learn from, creating a unique learning experience.

The rise of loneliness

Loneliness is essentially the number one factor of people listening to more podcasts, as a result of the covid 19 pandemic. With billions of people staying at home, podcasts were one of the few ways they could have a glimpse of social life, without breaching lockdown rules.

Though the lockdown period isn’t over, the after effects still stand, with many gravitating toward podcast creators to fill that void.

What’s the big deal about podcasts?

Podcasts have taken the world by storm for a variety of reasons, from the on-demand nature, personable aspects, loneliness and gaining professional insights at any time of the day.

As a marketing tool podcasts can be incredibly powerful, and there’s no doubt that they’re here to stay for the long term.
