Travel Hacks For Your Summer Holiday

Everyone seems to have a travel hack these days – some people swear by rolling their clothes instead of folding them, others have strong opinions about how early you should arrive at the airport, and so on. And the truth is that some of the most useful travel hacks have nothing to do with any of that; they’re usually the little things that make a holiday feel easier, smoother, and a lot less stressful once you’re actually there. With that in mind, here are a few worth trying this summer.

Put Everything In One Place

One of the most annoying things that can happen when you’re travelling is needing a piece of information and having no idea where you’ve saved it because your flight details are in one email, your accommodation booking is somewhere else, and you’ve taken a screenshot of something important so you need to find that too.

That’s why it helps to keep everything together, whether that’s in a notes app, a folder on your phone, or somewhere else that makes sense to you. It only takes a few minutes, and it can save a lot of frustration later.

Save Places Before You Leave

Most people spend time researching a destination before they travel, but then forget half of what they found once they actually arrive, so a simple trick is to save useful places on your maps before you go, which could include restaurants you want to try, attractions you’re interested in, supermarkets, pharmacies, transport hubs, and anything else you think you might need.

The fact is that when you’re standing in an unfamiliar place trying to work out where to go next, you’ll probably be glad you’ve already done the hard work, and you’ll probably save quite a bit of time as well.

Give Yourself Fewer Decisions To Make

People don’t always think about how many decisions they make when they’re travelling, like where should we eat? What should we do next? How do we get there? Is this the right train? Have we booked that ticket yet? That’s why some travellers choose a custom tour because it takes some of those decisions away but you can still properly enjoy the experience.

Make Arrival Day As Easy As Possible

It’s tempting to hit the ground running the moment you arrive somewhere new, but the problem is that travel days can be tiring, even when everything goes smoothly, and between flights, transfers, queues, and carrying luggage around, most people aren’t exactly at their best by the time they reach their destination.

That’s why it often makes sense to keep arrival day fairly simple – have a wander around, grab something to eat, get your bearings, and save the bigger plans for the following day.

Stop Trying To Get Your Money’s Worth

This one might sound strange, but sometimes people become so focused on getting value from a holiday that they accidentally stop enjoying it; they’ve paid for the trip, so they feel as though they need to be doing something every minute.

But it’s wise to remember that if you spend an afternoon sitting by the pool, reading a book, or watching the world go by, that isn’t wasted time, it’s actually a great part of the holiday too.
