5 Travel Methods, and How Practical Each One Is

There are all kinds of ways to travel if you want to get from one place to another. You can purchase different vehicles and learn how to drive them, and you might enjoy them more or less, depending on your personality. Some are all about fun, while others are more practical.

Let’s look at different travel methods and talk about how practical each one is if you have a trip coming up.

An ATV

ATVs are all-terrain vehicles, also known as quad bikes. They can be fun, though they are also pretty dangerous. All the injuries they cause attest to that.

Quad bikes killed 7,868 people over ten years, and about one-third of those were children. During the same ten-year period, these vehicles injured another 1,500,000 people.

ATVs are one of the most impractical travel methods you might pick. You can certainly get from one place to another in one if you’re out on a trail in the woods, but they are not street legal, nor can you take one out on the highway. If you want to travel within the continental US this year, you couldn’t pick anything much worse than an ATV.

A Car

A simple family car is probably one of the most convenient and practical vehicles if travel is on your agenda in 2021. One of the things that’s so nice about cars is that as long as you have a driver’s license and the appropriate insurance, you can take as much time during a trip as you’d like.

If you need to get somewhere quickly, you can press on in the family car with very few stops. You can’t get from one side of the country to the other in just a few hours like you can in a plane, but you can cover several states at a time if you’re motivated enough.

Cars are also nice because you can get one that’s purely electric now, which helps the environment quite a bit. The only issue there is that charging stations don’t exist yet in some parts of the country.

In the next few years, more charging stations will appear, and then purely electric cars will make more sense if you need to travel. In the meantime, a hybrid is your best bet if you want to be environmentally friendly, but you also want the convenience your own vehicle affords you.

An RV

RV
RVs are much larger than regular cars, so they’re a little impractical for travel in the sense that you need to be careful with one. If you’re an excellent driver, you might be okay traveling across the country in one. However, if you’re not used to something this size, it’s easy to bump into another car alongside you when you’re out on the highway.

Setting their larger size aside for the moment, RVs are great for traveling because you have both a bathroom and a kitchen right there with you. You can cook a gourmet meal and sleep in an actual bed right there in your RV without ever having to pay for a hotel room. Those aspects of this vehicle might make it a winner if you’re taking a trip.

A Motorcycle

Motorcycles are almost as dangerous as ATVs, with many injuries occurring among motorcycle riders every year. You can wear a helmet and pads when you ride one, and that’s at least somewhat helpful.

Every person does not know how to ride a motorcycle, so you need to learn how to do so before taking a trip on one. Also, you might be able to have one passenger cling to your back while on a motorcycle, but they probably won’t want to do so for a very long trip. They will have tired arms within an hour or so, and you can’t pack several people onto a motorcycle the same way you can with a car or an RV.

A Bike

Bikes are fun to ride, and they’re good exercise, but they’re more appropriate for rolling around your neighborhood than they are for taking a cross-country trip across America. Again, you can’t take your whole family with you on one like you can with the car or RV options.

If you’re alone and you’re intent on riding your bike across the country, it’s possible, but you will have to map out your route very carefully. You also probably won’t be able to do it in the winter, when the weather is prohibitive.
