How to Spend 2 Days in Mykonos in August

Mykonos is an island that never rests, especially in the summer months. From day to dawn, there is always something exciting going on. The opportunities to have ultra fun are endless and so are the options to live just the type of holiday you have in mind, from the uber luxury kind of thing to camping and spending your nights on the beach, while enjoying your chilled beer and grilled steaks next to a camp fire.

Even if you don’t have more than a weekend to suck in all the thrill and cosmopolitan atmosphere, you can definitely get a good taste of the exhilaration the Island of the Winds has to offer. Here are some suggestions to keep you busy and fulfilled for 48 straight hours!

Day #1: Sightseeing

If you look the other way, away from the vibrant night scene and party delirium that definitely takes over you when you step foot on the island, you will realise that Mykonos has an impressive ancient heritage. Start exploring it by visiting the Archaeological Museum in the Old Town, where you will find a great array of stelae, grave statues, vases, finds from Mykonos, and funerary urns from the late Hellenistic period. The ancient windmills, the almost 800 chapels and churches scattered all over the island, and other Mykonian ruins also await to bedazzle you with their magnificence too.

Don’t forget to include an excursion and guided tour to nearby Delos island. Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the birthplace of Apollo and Artemis is now an uninhabited land with an intense sensation that time has stopped there. There are daily departures from the old harbour.

End the day with a relaxed walk to Little Venice; a delightful place distinguished by whitewashed houses licking the edge of the sea, with enthralling bougainvillea-filled balconies overhanging the cobalt waters of the Aegean. Sip your cocktail while watching the sun disappears behind the horizon or close the day walking the cobblestoned streets and buying souvenirs – Mykonos has one of the best shopping scenes in Greece too!

Make sure you get a good night’s sleep at your Mykonian luxury private villa or budget-friendly hotel room because you will need lots of stamina when the sun rises again!

Day #2: Party Time

No way you can miss the legendary parties of Mykonos! Hit the beaches for a relaxing time – but, don’t be surprised if you bump into early partygoers – and dive into the island’s extreme nightlife later on.

Famous for its crystal clear waters and golden sand, the beaches here have something for every taste. Head to Super Paradise and Paradise beach for non-stop partying or the more relaxed and family-friendly Kalo Livadi, Lia, Ornos, and Elia beach. Your wish for more privacy will be granted at Agios Sostis and Kapari beach while if you desire a glimpse of celebs enjoying the Greek sun, the trendier Psarou, Paraga (with the famous Scorpios beach bar) and Nammos (hosting the homonymous elite Nammos bar restaurant) beach is where you need to go.   Click here to learn more about the best Mykonos beaches.

When the night comes, you may savour a leisure walk by the old harbour or relish great food at seaside eateries and tavernas before the fun begins at the world-famous Scandinavian, Cavo Paradiso or the gay-popular Jackie O bar. No matter which direction you take, the road will lead you to a crazy party so options are literally unnumbered.
