Websites That Help You Give Back While Traveling

When I travel, I sometimes wish there was a way to give back to the local community I am visiting.  If you too want to give back while traveling, I recently learned about two non-profit websites that can help:

Pack for a Purpose
Use available space in your luggage to bring needed supplies.  Pack for a Purpose even shows you how to pack your items efficiently.  (Bonus: Once you lighten your load, you will have extra space in your luggage to bring back all your souvenirs.)

A large number of destinations are covered and with little effort you can help out the local community.  All you need to do is:

  1. Select your destination.
  2. Find an accommodation or tour company and a project it supports.
  3. Choose the supplies you wish to take from the specific items requested.
  4. Drop off the supplies at the accommodation or tour company.
  5. Supplies will be delivered to the project.

GlobeDrop
If you don’t have room in your luggage to bring supplies from abroad or if you want more contact with social organizations, another option is GlobeDrop.  GlobeDrop encourages donors to purchase local supplies and they encourage immersion as you will usually personally transport supplies.

Keep these websites in mind on your future trips.  I know I will!
