If you are celebrating Christmas in Chicago this year and googled “Christmas tree farm near me” you are in the right place. There are many Christmas tree farms in the Chicago area to cut your own Christmas tree.  You can also visit a Christmas tree farm to purchase a pre-cut tree.

Even though the weather is getting colder, there are still plenty of fun to be had outdoors this November and December including ice skating, looking at holiday light displays, and visiting a Christmas tree farm to choose and cut your own Christmas tree (or enjoy the ambiance and buy a fresh pre-cut tree if you prefer). Most Christmas farms open the Friday after Thanksgiving but a few are already open.

Below is a list of all the Christmas tree farms in and near Chicago (listed in order of distance from downtown Chicago). I have included all the information you need to plan your visit, including addresses, dates and times, prices and more. Note: Make sure to check the farm’s website for any updates.

Cut Your Own Christmas Tree Farms Near Chicago

These farms allow visitors to choose and cut their own Christmas tree (or get a fresh pre-cut tree if you prefer).

Abbey Farms

At Abbey Farms you can cut your own tree or purchase a pre-cut tree. Free timed reservations are required to buy a tree this year. See website to make reservations, facebook page or call 630-966-7775 for more information.

Dates: November 20 -December 23, 2021. 

Hours: 7 days a week 10am-7pm (last entry at 6pm)

Prices: Premium Michigan Fir Precuts are priced at $12 – $18 per foot (depending on size), plus tax.
U-Cut Christmas Trees Pricing & Tree Types (including complimentary tree shaking and tie down assistance): $62.50 for Scotch Pine, White Pine, Austrian (all untagged Christmas trees) and $76 for Premium U-Cut tree: Spruce Firs  (All field trees tagged white trees). They have saws for a fully refundable $10 cash deposit.

Anderson Tree Farm

Anderson Tree Farm is a working farm where you can buy a fresh pre-cut tree or cut your own tree. Shake & wrap are provided along with free hot chocolate & popcorn.  See their website, facebook page or call 815-436-2140 for more information.

Pine-Apple Farm

Pine-Apple Farm offers cut your own pines firs and spruces trees. They can help load and tie your tree onto your vehicle and will have baling cord available if you prefer to tie it yourself.

They also sell fresh, pre-cut fraser firs cut but just before Thanksgiving. They are kept sitting in buckets of water and should hold their needles throughout the holiday season.

Hours: 9am until 4pm on weekends only

Prices: Cut Your Own Tree: Pines: $70, Firs and Spruces: $90. Fresh, Pre-Cut Fraser Firs 7′ thru 12′ are individually priced by height. Prices includes tax, shaking and baling. Cash and checks preferred but credit card are accepted for a small processing fee.

Bengtson Christmas Tree Farm

Bengtson Christmas Tree Farm is a family owned and operated tree farm with a large selection and 8 varieties of trees to choose from. They sell U-cut trees of 4′ and 10′ for you to choose from. They offer use of a saw (with refundable deposit) as well as twine for securing your tree to your car and tree retrieval service for free. Hot chocolate, mini apple cider donuts and tree Stands are available for optional purchase.

Cupola House Tree Farm

Cupola House Tree Farm is a traditional family Christmas tree farm along the Kankakee River State Park. They are a quaint choose-and-cut farm. They provide saws for cutting and twine to attach trees to vehicles. They also sell a pre-cut tree selection, and fresh wreaths, greens, arrangements and more. They will not have hot apple cider this year. Leashed, well-behaved dogs are allowed.

Lee’s Trees

Lee’s Trees is a small choose and harvest Christmas tree farm located on 14 acres 10 miles west of the Fox Valley in western Kane County. They are a full-service family farm offering both choose and cut your own tree and also selling pre-cut trees harvested from their two Wisconsin farms on a weekly basis to ensure freshness. Dates and Hours: Opens Sunday, November 21, 2021 from 9-4:30 and then Friday, November 26 and
Saturdays and Sundays 9:00 – 4:30 through December 20 or until sold out. (They also offer pre-season tagging beginning November 6 for their customers to select, tag and hold their perfect tree to be harvested later in the season.)

Prices: Trees priced are individually based on size, species, and quality. The average price of choose and cut trees is $75 (which includes shaking it clean, baling it up, and helping you load it at no charge). Average price of a 7′-8′ pre-cut tree: Balsam Fir – $75-$80, Fraser Fir – $100-$130, White Pine – $70-$75. Credit cards are accepted.

Larson’s Family Farm

Lartson’s Family Farm offers about eighteen acres of cut-your-own Christmas trees in varieties of evergreens:Caanan Fir (Like Fraizer Fir), White pine, Concolor Fir ( limited supply), Blue Spruce, Norway Spruce, and Scotch Pine. They provide visitors with saws (or bring your saw) for cutting trees. As a free service after trees have been cut, if desired, they shake out excess needles and will bail your tree with a net that makes transporting the tree much easier. They also sell handmade evergreen wreaths or lengths of roping. Using their own greens, they make three sizes of fresh evergreen wreaths, decorating them in seasonal colors and natural pine cones. They also sell evergreen roping you can use to drape on your staircases, doorways, or entryways and can fill custom orders of wreaths and roping with an order in advance. Pets not allowed. Their heated Barn Store will be open this year and will be selling affordably priced “Second Hand Rose” goodies and gifts for all ages as well Home Made cookies. Cash or Check only please.

Hours: They have special sales hours on Friday after Thanksgiving Day from 9:00am-4:00pm. Regular hours are 2:00pm-4:00pm Tuesday-Friday, and 9:00am-4:00pm each Saturday and Sunday.

Prices: All Christmas trees are $50.00 which includes tax, shaking dead needles out and netting for easy transportation. Handmade Wreaths: 14 inch ring–$17.00, 20 inch ring–$22.00, 30 inch ring–$38.00
Tree disposal bags are $3.00. They only accept cash and checks.

Camelot Christmas Tree Farm

Camelot Christmas Tree Farm has choose and cut and pre-cut Christmas trees available for sale in different varieties. Saws are provided and they also provide twine to secure the tree to your car. They usually offer free cookies, hot chocolate and coffee in their heated Christmas Tree Shed but they are unfortunately not offered this year. Dogs are allowed if they are well behaved and remain on a leash.

Dates: Opens Friday after Thanksgiving, November 26, 2021 at 9:00 AM. The closing date is TBD based on their available stock.

Hours: Saturday – Sunday 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. and Monday – Friday noon – 4 p.m. (Friday after Thanksgiving, open at 9:00 a.m.)

Prices: All Choose & Cut and Pre-Cut Christmas Trees are $80.00. Free Shaking & Bailing is included. Wreaths, Roping and Swags are also for available for purchase. They accept cash or check only.

Pioneer Tree Farm

Pioneer Tree Farm is a Cut-Your-Own tree farm with an excellent selection of pines, spruces, cedar, and firs. Their trees are organically grown and pruned by hand and a portion of tree sales is donated to the Environmental Defenders of McHenry County. They have more and bigger trees than usual because they were closed last year. The warming house will be open with crafts for sale, but will not be offering drinks or snacks to be eaten at the farm this year. Dogs on a leash allowed.

Dates: Open the Friday after Thanksgiving, November 26, 2021 and Saturdays and Sundays through December 19, 2021

Hours: Gate opens at 9:00 am, closes at 4:00 pm

Prices: Any tree is $70. Wagon rides to and from the pines and tree shaking and baling are included at no extra charge. Hand saws are provided, or bring your own (no chain saws or axes).

Richardson Adventure Farm

At Richardson Adventure Farm you can choose and harvest your own Christmas Tree. They have over 50,000 trees of many varieties and sizes of trees spread over 75 acres. On weekends, enjoy a free wagon ride to and from the fields and they will even haul your tree for you, shake your tree to get the loose needles out and bale it in plastic netting to keep it manageable for the ride to your home. Your tree is tagged and you receive a numbered receipt to preserve the identity of the tree while you go inside to enjoy a free hot chocolate or coffee.
There are hundreds of fresh wreaths and decorations inside for sale along with fresh, homemade donuts.

Tammen Treeberry Farm

Tammen Treeberry Farm is one of the largest choose and cut Christmas tree farms in Illinois. They grow about 160 acres of Christmas trees- mostly Douglas-fir, Canaan fir, and Fraser fir. They also have some white pine and Scotch pine trees.

Prices: The trees are $60 for any type or size of tree. Tree shaking is $3 and tree baling is $4.

Ben’s Christmas Tree Farm

Ben’s Christmas Tree Farm has been growing and nurturing 100% hand-pruned firs and pines since 1982 on 55 serene, rolling acres in McHenry County. They have thousands of trees in 9 varieties of firs and pines, from 6 to 12 feet tall. Due to a long period of drought during this year’s growing season, they will have limited supply of fir trees in 2021. They use organic farming practices, and all trees are pesticide-free. They will provide you with saws and twine at no charge, bring back your tree from the field on one of their wagons, and provide help tying the tree onto your car.
They also sell a large selection fresh, hand-made wreaths and greens items. Enjoy a visit with Santa as well as a cup of complimentary coffee or hot chocolate in their warming barn. Leashed pets are welcome.

Hours: 9:00 AM – 4:30 PM (when available, horse-drawn wagon rides typically run from 10 AM to 3:30 PM, subject to weather)

Prices: Pines start at $46 ($7 per foot with 6.5 foot minimum), Firs and spruces start at $84 ($13 per foot with 6.5 foot minimum). Cash or checks only.

Williams Tree Farm

Williams Tree Farm is a choose and cut farm and also sells pre-cut trees. Curbside Pick-Up will be also provided this season on Tuesday-Thursday. They also allow dogs on a leash and have Santa visits during weekends for the kids.

Spring Bluff Nursery

Spring Bluff Nursery, a farm listed on the Kane County Historic Register with landmark status, sells fresh cut Christmas trees in natural form, not sheared. Cut your own Christmas trees are not available this year as their trees need a year or two to get to size. Handmade wreaths, roping, evergreen boughs, plus other holiday décor will be available on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays starting November 18 and ending December 12 (while supplies last). Kroll’s Farm

For years Kroll’s Farm has curated the best fresh cut trees, wreaths, boughs and roping for the holidays from a second generation family-owned farm in Wisconsin. Their tree providers have been growing quality trees since 1974, and have even had their trees displayed in the White House and Wisconsin Capital Building. They will have a variety of fresh cut trees including: Balsam, Fraser, Canaan, White Pine, and Blue Spruce. Trees will range in size from 3-5 feet for table top or apartment trees and 6-11 feet for most varieties. They also have larger trees: Balsam trees will be available up to 14′ and Fraser trees up to 12′. They will also be selling hand made wreaths, swags, roping and boughs.

  1. I had no idea there were so many Christmas tree farms close to Chicago. It would be fun to visit one with my kids but would probably buy one of the pre-cut trees.
